Relay: A Modern Walkie Talkie
Relay, the smart walkie talkie, celebrates adventure while leaving smartphone worries behind. The small device aims to put childhood back in motion.
The Relay device combines the technology and power of a phone with the old school functionality of a walkie talkie. With just a single button and no screens, it allows children the space to grow, explore, find friends, and have fun; to wander and to wonder. Relay’s features include music, chatting with friends, and finding answers to questions using Google Assistant. The device also features GPS in order to locate your child in real time at any time. Other features include an unlimited range with nationwide 4G LTE or WiFi, privacy as information and location won’t be sold or shared, and simple voice activated games and commands. It can be clipped on to bags, thrown into your pocket, or even strapped to your arm.
Even though the device is targeted towards children, it is likely appealing to other groups of people such as outdoor enthusiasts or senior citizens. The new device is debuting in early 2018 and will be available in a single, double, or triple pack starting at $99. To learn more about Relay, and how to sign up for news, visit here.

Samsung: New Year, New Smart Speaker
While Samsung has yet to officially comment, a group of unidentified people briefed on the plans have shared some of their insights on the new smart speaker to be released in the first half of 2018 by the company.
We know from last summer that Samsung executive DJ Koh said the company was working on a smart speaker. While details weren’t shared at the time we also know that another executive, Patrick Chomet, is heading the project. The group sharing details now says the device will be strongly focused on appliances. The speaker will also run Bixby, Samsung’s digital assistant, in addition to synchronizing with other Samsung devices like TV’s and Galaxy smartphones. The company is considering a price point of $200, falling in between Amazon’s Echo and Apple’s new HomePod. Size is also being tested, as well as different color options.
Even though many details haven’t been confirmed yet, we are excited to see what the beginning of 2018 brings for Samsung’s smart speaker. To learn more about what the group close to the project had to say, visit here.
