Jet.com in NYC
Jet.com, a Hoboken-based e-commerce website now owned by Walmart Is going head-to-head with Amazon. In September, the company started offering delivery, within three hours, of select grocery and other items to New York City customers.
Jet is also relaunching its website, giving it a more local feel with offerings from identifiably New York brands. Craft beers will also become available over the next few months. The relaunch follows a deal made this spring with Apple to carry its products, as well as a new one with Nike bringing footwear, apparel, and accessories to the site. Jet is pitching all of the new features as a more local and personalized version of online shopping than what is offered by rival Amazon. Amazon operates online grocer Amazon Fresh, which offers one-hour home delivery in New York of online orders from Whole Foods, including from their craft beer selection.
Executives at Jet.com believe this is where retail is going, and that this is just their beginning. They plan to eventually extend the localized approach to other big cities and feel it can be a game changer. To learn more, visit here.
Two Factor Authentication
One and One is More Than Two.
So what is all the fuss about? My bank wants me to do this. So does my financial app. Payroll, time reporting, and the list goes on.
The advent of confirmation emails, special codes sent to your phone, and even touch ID are all examples of this technology. The goal of requiring an independent confirmation for access to important and private information is for the purpose of protecting you and your digital data. Since most of us access critical information on our mobile devices, in shared public kiosk machines, and even machines we may not have anti virus software installed, it is very possible for passwords to be compromised. In addition, with the increased amount of phishing emails looking to steal personal information it has become even harder to protect yourselves.
The goal of two factor authentication is to require a second confirmation prior to allowing access to your important information. This way, even if your password has been compromised it is much less likely to end in unauthorized access. Obviously if your cellphone is lost this method may not ensure your safety but for the most part, having to provide secondary approval before allowing access to a website reduces the risk significantly.
One area MCG, Inc. is exploring further for this is for access to email. You may not think this requires such a measure but email is the most likely application to be hacked, and can then allow someone to obtain much more information about you professionally and personally.

Review of the Month
Earlier this month, we set up Airtame in our office conference room. Airtame is an all-in-one wireless screen sharing solution. The powerful device allows you to roll hardware, software and integrated apps in an easy to use manner. The packaging is simple and small, with little set up needed. First you power Airtame and connect it to your screen using the included Aircord. Then you connect it to your local network, and download the corresponding app on your mobile device or computer. Lastly, you can open the app, select Airtame from the list, and start presenting. The display quality is good, and includes advanced options when streaming. It also offers additional configuration option for extra security. To learn more about Airtame and how it could help your own work environment, visit here.
